Referring a Loved One?
Start the admission process and discover a day program that celebrates choice, connection, and growth.
Thank you for your interest in Blossom Hill’s Abilities Enrichment Center (AEC) — a welcoming, participant-led day program that celebrates every individual’s abilities. Located in Middleburg Heights, AEC provides engaging activities, community opportunities, and individualized supports to enrich the lives of adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities across Northeast Ohio.
Whether your loved one is new to day programming, ready for a change from a vocational or work-based setting, or simply looking for a place that offers more choice and joy, AEC is here to help each person live their fullest life.
Many of our participants come to us after years in employment-focused programs. While those experiences can be valuable, we understand that not everyone wants or is able to maintain a work schedule forever. AEC offers a meaningful alternative — one that keeps individuals active, connected, and thriving through social engagement, community outings, creativity, and fun.
Step-by-Step: How to Begin
Our goal is to make the transition simple and supportive. Every referral begins with a few key steps designed to ensure
that we can safely and successfully meet each individual’s unique needs.
- Review of ISP (Individual Service Plan) We request a copy of your loved one’s most current ISP. This helps our team understand their goals, supports, and specialized needs — allowing us to align AEC’s enrichment programming with their personal plan of care.
- Medication Orders We request a copy of your loved one’s most current ISP. This helps our team understand their goals, supports, and specialized needs — allowing us to align AEC’s enrichment programming with their personal plan of care.
- Physician OrdersWe request a copy of your loved one’s most current ISP. This helps our team understand their goals, supports, and specialized needs — allowing us to align AEC’s enrichment programming with their personal plan of care.
What to Expect
Families often tell us that AEC feels different from the moment they walk through the door. There’s laughter, music, movement, and energy — a true sense of belonging. Every day includes multiple activity choices and a scheduled community outing, so each participant can choose the level of engagement that’s right for them.
If your loved one is “retiring” from a vocational program or stepping back from employment, AEC can help them
continue to grow and connect through:
- Meaningful peer relationships and socialization
- Daily opportunities to explore art, music, nature, and recreation
- Access to specialized programming such as sensory exploration, adaptive exercise
(Jacob’s Ladder, Rec2Connect), and community partnerships - Confidence and dignity through choice-driven participation
